For those residing in the Lewes area, the initial consultation is complimentary.

It’s important for the designer to get a full understanding of your requirements, it’s worth taking some time to think about what your ideal garden would be, intended usage, and the individuals who will utilise it.

Upon completion of the consultation, we will provide a detailed cost estimate for the design of your garden.

Guide to Design Costs:

  • For small gardens (up to 150m2) allow approximately £500 – £800 inc. VAT.
  • For medium sized garden (up to 300m2) allow £800 – £1,200 inc. VAT
  • Fees charged on an hourly basis, a full breakdown of charges will be supplied.

Design Process:

  • Briefing – A full brief for the garden should be agreed
agreed upon between the client and the designer prior to commencing any design work. This ensures that the client receives a garden that aligns with their specific requirements and preferences.
  • Survey and Site Analysis
For smaller gardens, the survey may be conducted in-house. However, for larger spaces, it is advisable to engage a specialist land survey company to produce a detailed diagram of the existing garden. This diagram should encompass boundaries, land levels, the location of services, and any relevant information. Additionally, we will take a soil sample, identify key views, record the orientation of neighbouring structures and trees, and gather any other pertinent data.
  • Outline Proposal
Utilising the information gathered from our discussions, survey, and site analysis, we will provide an initial master plan. This plan should include sketches of the visual concept, suggestions for materials, structures, and key plants. The master plan will offer a preliminary glimpse into the final appearance of the garden. This process is iterative, and adjustments may be made based on the client’s feedback.
  • Detailed Drawings – Once the outline proposal has been approved, we will provide detailed drawings, planting plans (if requested) and a list of materials. These documents will provide the client with a comprehensive understanding of the garden’s design and the necessary materials required for its construction.
  • Construction Details and Specification – For larger gardens, additional stages may be necessary, including construction detailing and specification. These processes ensure that the contractors involved in the garden’s construction have a clear understanding of the desired design and can accurately quote for the project. Small / simple project may not require these additional steps and can be costed and built for the detailed drawings
  • Planting Plan – There will have been much discussion during the design process about the style of planting, key trees and shrubs. The planting plan will specify the exact plants, their locations, and their eventual sizes on a scaled drawing. The plan will also take into account seasonal interest and the suitability of plants to the specific conditions and location in the garden. A schedule will be generated, listing all plant names and quantities, enabling the efficient sourcing and costing of plants and ensuring that everything is planted in the correct location.
